Basel, 28.2.2012 - The percussion section of the Royal Philharmony of Sweden consists of four of Sweden's most highly respected proffessional percussionists. Several of them are also active as teachers on universities of music. Knowing David Lindberg, who has carried the interest of swiss drumming to Sweden through a collaboration with AdjUOff Philipp Rütsche, they had come in contact with the unique tradition of Basel drumming, and found a common interest of studying it further.
To get a clear picture of where the tradition inherits from, and find the source of the expression and interpretation that is so uniquely connected to the Basler drumming style, the entire section set off to Basler Fasnacht 2012. They had the opportunity to experience the massive energy of the launch of Morgestreich, the joyful celebrational feeling along the cortége route, and had chance to meet and talk directly to some of the central persons of swiss drumming.
For tuesday they had the unique opportunity to dress up in full Fasnacht costumes, organized by Fränzi Humair and Fabian Kuhn, and follow the group Pulsglopfer as vortrab. Marching in front of a drum group, in costume and mask, and spending the entire day and night with the members, gave the percussionists a close experience of what the celebration of Fasnacht and the drumming style of Basel are all about.
They left Basel on wednesday afternoon with huge inspiration to continue studying swiss traditional drumming, and learn to play themselves.

Tambouren – Nicht nur an der Fasnacht Spitze
Die Trommelkultur ist in der Schweiz stark verankert. An der Fasnacht geben tausende Tambouren ihre Kunst zum Besten. Während des Jahres spielen die Frauen und Männer in Vereinen und messen sich an nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben. Auch in der Herstellung der Instrumente ist die Schweiz Spitze.Im «Treffpunkt» erzählen Tambouren, wie das Trommelspiel erlernt wird und geben Kostproben ihres Könnens. Ausserdem besuchen wir einen Trommelbauer in Basel, der nicht nur für das Fasnachtsgeschäft viel zu tun hat. Ab Juni wird das Repräsentations-Korps des Weissen Hauses auf seinen aufwendig angefertigten Trommeln spielen.
